Spike was walking down the street when something caught his ear. It was yelling. He stopped walking and looked across the street. There. By an alley near a parking lot.

A frustrated mother was yelling at her crying child. The child was a little girl no more than two years old. "That's it! I've had it! I can't take it anymore! Stay here, you hear me, you stay here!" The mother got in the car and drove off, leaving the little girl in the street by the alley. The whole time she was crying and rubbing her puffy eyes with her little hands.

Spike couldn't believe it. The woman had just abandoned her child. He crossed the street to the little girl. She had short wavy brown hair and big beautiful blue eyes. She wore a fancy little green dress and little dress shoes. Spike bent down and took a tissue out of his pocket. He smoothed out her hair while drying her hands and face.

"Calm down. It's okay. What's wrong?"

The child appeared to calm down when she smiled and greeted him. "Hi." He smiled back.

"Hi. What's your name?" She answered cheerfully, "Vicky. What's yours?"

"Spike."

Vicky giggled and said his name. "Spike."

He grinned. "Are you hungry? You want something to eat?"

She almost bounced with joy. "Yeah!"

He picked her up. "Okay. Let's get you inside." She laid her head on his shoulder and hugged his neck, soon drifting off to sleep.
