The Rescue -- by wensar1
Rating: PG-13
Description: Spike saves someone!
Note: This takes place after Enemies. Faith is working for the mayor and the Scooby Gang knows. Oz and Willow never got back together in Amends. Spike is back in Sunnydale without Drusilla but has not made his presence known yet. ( ) = thought.

At the Cemetery
(What's that smell?) Spike sniffs the air as he passes another grave. (It's familiar... It's Willow! Willow is near and she's afraid.) He scans the area. There is some movement about six yards away on the other side of that mausoleum. He moves around within the cover of the shadows.
Faith pushes Willow up against the wall of the mausoleum. Willow's head smacks the cement with a painful blow.(Where's Buffy?) Faith raises the stake in her right hand and is about to bring it down into Willow's heart...
"Let her go." Spike's voice stops her mid-swing as he emerges from the shadows to confront Willow's attacker.(Spike.) Willow's heart jumps with relief and confusion. Faith reacts to this interruption by grabbing Willow's head and slamming it into the wall, knocking her out. Willow's limp body slides to the ground.
Faith charges Spike. He sidesteps her and falls into a fighting stance. Before she can come at him again he punches her in the face and in the stomach. Faith staggers a bit but catches him off guard with a quick roundhouse kick. While he is still dazed she attempts to stake him but Spike blocks and the stake gets shoved in his stomach.(Oww.) "Ugh." With a quick and rage-filled move Spike turns her around, places one hand on the back of her head, the other holding her chin, and twists, snapping her neck. Faith falls lifelessly to the ground.(That's odd. Why would a slayer want to hurt Willow?)
Spike rushes over to Willow. Her body is sprawled out across the grass. His breath would have caught in his throat if he had any. Her mid-thigh skirt had slid up in the fall, exposing a lot of leg.(She's beautiful.) With the stake still protruding from his stomach, Spike picked Willow up and carried her off.
The Library
"I couldn't find her." Buffy said to Giles, with a worried look on her face. "I ran into some vamps on my way to meet her and when I got there she wasn't there. I checked her house. She wasn't there. And she's not here. Where could Willow be?"
That was the moment. The moment Spike came in the library doors with Willow in his arms and a stake sticking out of his stomach.
"Oh dear lord.", Giles said with shock and recognition.
"Spike." Buffy said with accusation and threat in her voice as she pulled out a stake. She hadn't noticed the stake already in him.
"Watch it, Slayer. I've already had my fill today." Spike says as he carries Willow over to the research table. He knocks off the books on the table and gently lays Willow down. That's when Buffy notices the stake in his stomach. He looked down at it and winced when he pulled it out. Spike put the bloody stake down beside Willow's head on the table.
Spike moved to leave but Buffy stepped in the way.
"Get out of my way." Spike glared at Buffy.
"You're not going anywhere." Buffy held her ground and glared back.
"Bloody hell." Spike moves back and takes a seat near Willow.
"What happened to Willow?" Buffy looked Spike straight in the eye. Spike sighed. "I could smell her. Her fear. Her. I went to check it out. I saw a brunette about to stake her right through the heart. Some new slayer. I told her to let Willow go. She knocked Willow out and came after me. She tried to stake me. I blocked and the damned thing went in my stomach. I killed her and picked Willow up and brought her here. Now can I get the bloody hell out of here?!"
Buffy looks to Giles then back to Spike. "No. You're going to stay here until Willow wakes up and confirms your story. Now while we all wait for Willow to wake up I'm going to call Xander then get to work on my history project."
"Xander is on his way." Buffy walked over to the table and sat across from Spike near Willow. She slid her notebook onto the table pushing her markers across the table, nearly missing Willow, towards Spike. Buffy was too busy outlining a map in pencil to notice Spike pick up the markers.
